Kobo unveils affordable 6" touch screen E-Ink ebook reader: Kobo Touch Edition
      #40703 - 05/23/11 05:25 PM

LCDs just not your thing for ebook reading, but wish you had a touch screen? Kobo just announced their $139 Kobo Touch Edition 6 inch eReader with a Pearl E-Ink display and infrared touch sensors. It will be available in time for Father's Day (June 19), according to Kobo, and the price seriously undercuts the Sony Reader Touch Edition while adding WiFi to the mix. It's also the same price as the not-so-touchy Amazon Kindle 3. Kobo uses standard ePub format with Adobe Adept DRM, making it compatible with selection of 2.3 million titles as well as other stores like the Sony ebook store that sell books in this format.

Kobo's Real Touch experience uses Neonode's new zForce infrared touch technology and Pearl E Ink technology, for sharp reading, even in direct sunlight. The new eReader is powered by the new Freescale i.MX508 processor, a high-performance engine designed to enable fast page turning for electronic paper displays. The Kobo Touch Edition can store up to 30,000 books with expandable memory.
