iPad 2 Case Review: Targus Vuscape Cover and Stand for iPad 2

What's Hot: Protective hard case and cover, easy access to all buttons and ports, relatively slim and light.

What's Not: Rear camera cutout is a bit off.

Targus offers two new iPad 2 cases, the Targus Versavu Cover and Stand and the Targus Vuscape Cover and Stand. While the Targus Versavu case provides layers of protection for your iPad 2 it also adds considerable amount of weight and bulk to your slim tablet. The Targus Vuscape Cover & Stand however provides good protection, though not super protection like the Versavu does, yet it?s reasonably slim and light. If you want to get a protective case to use around the office and take it home in your bag or backpack, the Targus Vuscape can certainly do the trick.

Design

Like the Targus Versavu case, the Vuscape Cover and Stand for iPad 2 is made with faux leather. The case has a hard shell that?s molded to form fit the iPad 2, but instead of cover the whole edges of the iPad 2, the Targus Vuscape has reinforced claws on the corners and one on top and one on the bottom of the tablet to hold the iPad 2 in the hard shell case. The claws work reasonably well, but I wouldn?t tangle the iPad 2 face down and trust the claws to hold it very securely. The hard shell feels very strong and sturdy for protecting the back of the iPad 2.

The front cover also has hard insert and a very soft and cushy padding that feels very nice in hand. The screen cover has a reinforced latch to securely shut the case when you are not using the tablet. The Targus Vuscape case has a layer of soft suede-like lining that helps prevent scratches on both sides of the tablet. The black faux leather exterior looks classy and the light blue soft lining combined with blue stitching on the exterior adds a touch of elegance to the case. The case is lot slimmer than the Versavu case, and weighs 9.4 oz.

Features

Just like the Targus Versavu case, the Targus Vuscape Cover and Stand for iPad 2 has a built in stand. The inside corners of the hard shell don?t latch onto the tablet as tight as the outer corners and the side claws because you can free the iPad 2 from the insider corners to stand the tablet on one of the two deep grooves on the cover. The iPad 2 feels steady when propped up on the stand, and other than the two grooves in the front cover in which can prop up your iPad 2 in 45-degree and 75-degree angles, you can actually fold the case and lay the tablet in a 10-15-degree angle for typing on the screen.

Since the Targus Vuscape?s hard shell case doesn?t cover the edges of the iPad 2, it leaves all buttons and ports open, including the rear camera and the speaker grill. The rear camera cutout is just a bit off the center but it doesn?t cover any part of the camera to mess up your photos or video. You should have no trouble whatsoever using a charging cable, headset or any of the buttons on the tablet while in this case. The front camera and the Home button are also exposed when you open the cover.

Conclusion

If you are looking for a slim case with strong inserts and cushy padding for the screen, the Targus Vuscape Cover and Stand for iPad 2 offers that. The case is well built, looks professional and keeps your iPad 2 very functional while in the case. It?s slim yet gives your tablet plenty of protection in a backpack or a large bag with other gear for daily use. The built-in stand gives you three angles and keeps your iPad 2 steady. If you don?t need the extra layer of protection that Versavu case gives you, the Targus Vuscape certainly is a lot lighter and slimmer while protects the iPad 2 from normal use and moderate abuse.
