What's Hot: Fun to design, easy to order, and great print quality.
What's Not: Looses adhesive strength after multiple use.
Making laptop cover more colorful and expressive is very trendy with consumers that companies like Dell sells a large variety of notebook covers for certain laptops. Alternatively you can get skins for your laptop cover, they are cheaper and adds very little bulk and weight to your computer. SkinIt offers a huge selection of skin designs, and you can make your own skins with personal photos, text and shapes. These skins come on thick 3M vinyl sheet with high quality print. SkinIt offers skins for mobile phones, check out our review of Tron Legacy for iPhone 4, MP3 players and more. For notebooks, SkinIt offers skins for popular models of all brands including Apple, HP, Acer, Dell, Toshiba, Sony and even generic with detailed measurements. We look at one of the Monster City skin designs on a MacBook Air 13? for this review.
SkinIt offers a large collection of designs you can use for your laptop skin. These include sports teams including college teams, Art, humor, movies (especially Disney titles), fashion, animals, military and more. There are also some special designs made by artists, such as the Monster City series used in this review, as well as special interests like flags, zodiac and seasonal designs. We wish there were more video game images, but we suspect these are harder to get license for.
As with the iPhone 4 skin, you can design your laptop skin with your photos and texts. To help you with your own design, SkinIt's web site has a mini-image editor where you can add images, input texts, add shapes to your images or text and more. The online editor has some basic functions like cut/paste, undo/redo and preview. It?s easy to use and can really help you position your design perfectly.
With Apple logo showing:
The SkinIt skin for the MacBook Air comes in a photo cardboard tube in the mail, safe from bending or damage. The skin is made of automotive-grade 3M vinyl that?s thick and won?t scratch or tear easily. The printing quality is excellent: colors are bright, design looks sharp, and it looks very close to what you saw on the website when you designed it. The skin can protect your laptop cover from scratches and pokes from small pointy objects like keys. The skin only has cover piece, won?t protect anything on the bottom of your laptop.
The vinyl skin is easy to install once you line up one side and leaves no adhesive residue after you peel it off. There are some air bubbles when you install the skin, but they are very easy to get rid off. Just keep pushing them out toward the closest edge. The Monster City skin for the MacBook Air comes in three pieces: a large main piece that covers everything but the Apple logo, and two small pieces for the Apple logo. If you wish to let the Apple logo light shine through, you can install just the main piece, but the picture of the Monster City design won?t look complete. All three pieces fit the MacBook Air cover perfectly precise. As with the iPhone 4 skin, if you take the skin off and put it on a few time, the adhesive doesn?t hold the strength very well.
