Android USB Modems

The only thing holding me back from the Toshiba Thrive is total reliance on WiFi. The key place I would use it (my mother's in South Carolina)is not WiFi friendly. Is there an Android USB modem (and software) in my future from Verizon, AT&T, etc.?

I doubt we'll see an external modem for Android tablets, but if you have a phone with the 3G/4G mobile hotspot feature, that would work perfectly.
