What's Hot: Incredibly thin, flexible stand and stylish.

What's Not: The rear camera cutout is off the center.

Case-mate knows how to make slim cases, just look at their Barely There case for the iPad 2. But unlike the thin plastic shell case, the Venture case for the iPad 2 is made with faux leather yet it's still incredibly thin! Dressed in textured faux-leather, the Venture iPad 2 case is very strong with plastic inserts bound to the faux leather. The black case has red accents and looks stylish, and it's very sturdy and provides good protection against bumps, pokes and impact shock. The Case-mate iPad 2 case comes in black exterior and gray interior with red accents on both inside and outside of the case.

Design

The Case-mate Venture case for iPad 2 is a portfolio style case. It has a tablet holder on the right and a display cover on the left. The tablet holder is quite slim but has a rigid plastic shell to protect the iPad 2?s back. This form fitting pocket opens on the left and shuts securely using the closure tab with strong Velcro. The case covers other sides of the tablet but has cutouts for ports and buttons. The tablet holder covers the front bezel surrounding the displaying, but it doesn?t get too close to the display and get in the way of apps that use the touch screen near the edge.

The case?s front cover wraps around the back to create a built-in tablet stand. If you like snaps, you will feel right at home with the Case-mate Venture case for iPad 2. The front cover shuts tight with a snap, and two more snaps behind the tablet holder tie up the stand to the back cover when not in use. The snaps look cool and are effective at keeping the case slim and tidy.

The exterior on the Case-mate Venture case is faux leather, but it has an interesting reptile skin like texture that not only looks fashionable but also gives the case a better grip. The plastic shell underneath the faux leather gives the case a strong structural support. The iPad 2 case has soft suede like lining that won?t scratch the surface of your tablet.

Features

The Case-mate Venture case for iPad 2 has cutouts for all ports and buttons on the table, including the 30-pin connector and the speaker grill on the bottom, the screen lock and volume buttons on the side, the power button, mic and audio out jack on top as well as the rear camera on the back. All cutouts have perfect alignments except the rear camera cutout is off the center on the case we have, but it doesn?t obscure the lens for taking pictures or photos. You should have no trouble using any charging/syncing cable or headsets and headphones while your iPad 2 is in the Venture case.

The Case-mate Venture case for iPad 2 has a nicely designed built-in tablet stand. The front cover of the case extends half way to the back to create a space for the tablet holder to swing forward and stand up in landscape orientation. The case lets you use the entire front cover to stand your tablet, creating many viewing angles. There is a strap connecting the back of the tablet holder and the stand piece so that the tablet won?t collapse and fall flat, and helps to steady the tablet while it?s in standing position. It?s easy to adjust the viewing angles thanks to this design. We do like the two snaps on the back that folds the stand to the back of the tablet, so when you are not using the stand, the case works like a regular case without a stand.

Conclusion

The Case-mate Venture case for iPad 2 has a cool design and a stylish look. It?s very functional and incredibly slim. The plastic inner shell bound nicely with the faux leather exterior provides strong protection against surface damages as well as structural shock and impact force. If you are looking for something with more padded, Case-mate offers the Versant case for the iPad 2 that?s thicker with more padding. But if you are looking for a lean and mean case with a flexible stand, the Venture case is a much better fit with more stylish design. Case-mate also makes this case in Ostrich textured exterior for $100.
