What's Hot: Small and portable, interesting design, works with most tablets.
What's Not: A bit heavy to carry, limited to 2 major viewing angles.
Twelve South makes elegant accessories for Apple products. Their latest tablet stand for iPad and iPad 2 comes in an easel shape and works very well with both iPad models as well as other tablets. The Twelve South Compass Mobile Stand is a heavy steel stand that can prop up a tablet steadily in either portrait or landscape orientation. The easel style stand comes in iPad Silver, Tactical Black and Candy Apple Red.
Small and portable, the Twelve South Compass Mobile Stand is designed to fold up easily for carrying and opens up like a painter's easel as a stand. The slim stand is very well built from heavy gauge steel and can create two viewing angles for either multimedia viewing or typing on the tablet. The two front legs opens up to create a flat surface for your iPad 2 to rest on it, and the back leg opens to create steady support. A short yet sturdy stand folds into the back leg, and when you pull it out, the stand can rest on this short leg to create a flatter angle for typing on your iPad 2.
The Twelve South Compass Mobile Stand looks simple yet interesting. It's very easy to take with you on the road because it folds into a very small package, though since it's made with heavy steel, itís not super light weighing in at 6.9 ounces. The easel design also offers small footprint on your desk, as its three legs take very little space. The stand has rubber padding and it wonít slip on a shiny flat surface. The parts that touch the tablet on the stand also have rubber-like material to ensure it doesnít scratch the surface of your iPad 2.
The Twelve South Compass Mobile Stand works for both iPad models and other 7" to 10" tablets. We tested it with several Android tablets, and found it worked well with them. Your tablet stands on two small treaded arms on the front legs, and as long as your tablets arenít unusually thick, it should fit on the Compass easily.
We love the design of the Compass Mobile stand because itís sturdy and easy to use, yet it's very small when folded and great for taking with you on trips. The colors are nice specially the Candy Apple Red which stands out in contrast to the silver iPad 2 back. The stand offers 2 important angles and works with tablets in both landscape and portrait orientation. The easel style stand comes with a soft travel sleeve and works with most tablets unless itís unusually thick.
