What's Hot: Small and light, works well as a stand, quick charge.

What's Not: Not a big capacity battery.

For iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S users who need some extra power while on the go or at the end of a day, Kensington now offers a compact battery pack that provides rapid charging and can also function like a stand for video watching or Facetime. The Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery, Dock and Stand works with most iPod touch and iPhone models, and it's very easy to use.

Design

The Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery comes in a compact form. Measuring 2.5 x 2.3 x 0.7 inches and weighs 1.76 ounces, the battery pack can easily fit in any gear bag or a small pocket in a backpack. The PowerLift is very well designed: when not in use, the battery pack folds into a small puck; and when in use, the 30-pin connector dock can swing out to either 180" degrees with iPhone 4S so that you can talk while it's charging, or fold back to stand up the iPhone using the built-in stand. A short built-in USB cable hides below the battery pack; unfold the short cable, you can connect it to your computer or an iPhone AC adapter to charge and sync the iPhone 4S and charge the battery pack.

The top of the battery pack has a soft touch texture, and when you put the battery into a stand, this side sits on the table and isn't slippery. The underside of the battery is shiny plastic and the built-in stand has a faux brushed metal surface. The stand feels steady and is easy to use. The Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery works with 1st through 4th generation iPod touch devices, the iPhone, iPhone 3G/3GS, as well as the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S.

Features

The Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery, Dock and Stand has a rechargeable Lithium-Ion Polymer battery that's 1200 mAh in capacity. It takes input of 5V DC, 500mA and outputs 5V DC, 5mA to 1Amp max power. The battery can fill at least 50% of a full charge on the iPhone 4 and iPhone 4S, and it dumps power in 30-45 minutes thanks to the rapid charging technology. The battery can add about 3-3.5 hours talk time and 20 hours of music playback for the iPhone 4S. One convenient design of the PowerLift is that it can rotate the charging port to align with the iPhone 4S, so you can charge your iPhone while talking on the phone. The battery automatically charges your iPhone when it's connected, and there is a battery power check button on the bottom and 4 LED lights to indicate the power level.

In addition to charging your iPhone 4S and propping it up in the stand, the Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery pack can also function as a docking station. Connect the built-in USB cable on the battery to your computer, and plug your iPhone into the battery, you can sync your phone while it's charging the phone and the battery. The PowerLift battery pack takes about 2 hours to fully charge via computer.

Conclusion

The Kensington PowerLift Back-Up Battery, Dock and Stand is a very convenient power accessory for your iPhone or iPod touch if you need some top up in a pinch. It charges the iDevice very fast and works very well as a stand and a desk dock. The battery pack is small and easy to carry in your bag or purse and it's great for video playback, video calling and showing slides. The battery capacity is big enough for end-of-day top up or when you need a bit more power in a pinch.
