Sony Updates VAIO Notebook Line with Intel Core 3rd Gen Ivy Bridge
      #42735 - 06/04/12 09:46 AM

Sony today announced that it has updated its VAIO notebook models with the new Intel Core 3rd gen CPUs (Ivy Bridge), and also consolidated models to make it easier for consumer to identify the best notebooks for their needs. In the new Sony VAIO line, the VAIO S line includes a 13.3" and a 15.5" model (no more VAIO F 15" model); and the VAIO Z with separate dock to offer a lower starting price. Here are the details on these updated Sony VAIO notebooks:

The Sony VAIO Z Series are available with Intel Core i7 quad core processor, a 13.1" Full HD display (1920 x 1080), a fingerprint scanner with Trusted Platform Module (TPM), and a backlit keyboard. The VAIO Z measures only 0.66" thick and weighs 2.58 lbs. Created from a blend of high-end materials including carbon fiber, aluminum and magnesium alloy often used in the manufacture of race cars, this lightweight yet durable laptop stands up to your on-the-go lifestyle. The VAIO Z comes with a 4000mAh internal polymer battery and optional sheet battery with additional 4400mAh power.

The Z Series features dual channel solid state drives (SSD) with RAID technology instead of a typical spinning hard disk drive for quicker boot-up, speedier access to applications, faster read/write speeds and lower power consumption. And because an SSD has no moving parts, it's less prone to the common scratches that occur in conventional hard drives. The Z series starts at $1599 without the dock.

The optional dock for dedicated graphics:

The optional Power Media Dock delivers the horsepower your day demands via one unique and familiar port. A powerful AMD Radeon HD 6650M graphics card with 1GB VRAM allows for premium visual quality and intense HD performance without huge demands on the CPU. Includes optional slot loading Blu-ray Disc player, USB 3.0 port, HDMI out and more.
