Jill-e Designs has been making fashionable carrying bags for women gadget lovers since 2006. Their laptop and camera bags and satchels hide techno gear behind chic and feminine style that fits the image of fashionistas and professional women who need to carry their "tech-cessories". Though they may look like the purses you've seen in a fashion store, these bags are very protective of your gear thanks to thick padding and careful design and use high quality material inside and out. The Metro Tablet Bag from Jill-e comes in black and white with three color options: black with silver trim, white with black trim and white with pink trim.
At a glance, you wouldn't have guessed that the Jill-e Metro Tablet Bag was a tablet bag. The top loading handbag is very slim and portable considering it has two storage compartments large enough to store a 10" tablet and more, a larger front pocket big enough for a 7" tablet and a zippered compartment on the back for storing a large smartphone. The exterior uses top-grain thick leather that feels sturdy yet soft. All edges of the bag (except the openings under the flap) have edge guard leather securely sewn up. This not only prevents the edges coming apart but also adds reinforcement to the structure of the bag to absorb shock and other damages against your devices. The bag has fabric interior lining and thick padding around the tablet compartment including the bottom. It also has a strong Velcro tab that secures your tablet inside of the compartment.
The full top flap is thick and covers the main compartments completely so that you can't see what's stored in the bag. The flap has a magnetic snap that's strong enough to keep it closed but opens easily. The shoulder bag has a strong leather strap with a soft padded shoulder pad. You can also adjust the length of the shoulder strap. Though it can store quite a few gadget pieces, the Jill-e Metro Tablet Bag measures only 8 x 3 x 11.5 inches and weighs 1.5 lbs. The solid color bag looks tasteful with subtle color accents and a small quarter sized branding badge on the front of the flap. As it's designed more for business professionals, the bag doesn't come in more playful colors.
The main storage area of the Jill-e Metro Tablet Bag has three compartments. The tablet compartment lives in the back with padding and a closure tab. We tested the new iPad and several Android tablets, all fit in this compartment fine. There is an equally large and wide compartment in front of the tablet storage area, but it's not as roomy or padded in the front. You can fit a thin paper notebook, a pocket book, and small items like keys, etc., but nothing too thick.
The Jill-e Metro Tablet Bag has a large front compartment that's shorter than the main storage area. It's roomy enough to store a smaller tablet like the Amazon Kindle, though it's not as tall as the Kindle, but should keep it secure nonetheless. If you don't need to carry an additional ebook reader or a smaller tablet, this compartment can easily store your smartphone, keys, a thick paper notebook, wallet and more. In case you do need to take an ebook reader in the front pocket, the Jill-e bag has another pocket on the back panel with a zipper that's large enough for a smartphone.
Stylish yet subtle, the Jill-e Metro Tablet Bag is a fine carrying bag for ladies with their tech-cessories. The bag is surprisingly slim for what's capable of carrying, and is very easy to use. The thick padding and high quality materials ensure the safety of your tech gadgets. The bag is very well put together with strong stitching, metal shoulder strap rings and more. We only wish there were more color options than the black and white.
