What's Hot: Sturdy material, thick padding, easy to use.

What's Not: The Velcro is loud.

WaterField Designs is now offering several great cases for the Google Nexus 7 Android tablet, and the Ultimate SleeveCase is the most protective sleeve case in the lot. The Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase is a thick yet light sleeve case that's also very form fitting for the tablet. The thick padding doesn't add much weight to the case and you can use the case by itself or store it in another bag or backpack. The Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase comes in black nylon with two bottom trim options: brown leather and Lead Indium.

Design and Features

The WaterField Designs Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase is a super sturdy and very well built case. The external shell is made with ballistic nylon that's waterproof and resistant to scratches, bumps and nicks. The sleeve case opens on the side, and has a large and sturdy closure flip that uses a large piece of Velcro to shut the sleeve securely. The bottom of the case has a decorative trim that comes in either brown leather or silver/black trim that WaterField calls Lead Indium. A sturdy nylon strip attaches to the bottom trim works like a pull handle for taking out the tablet from the sleeve case. The reason you will need this pull handle is that Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase is extremely form fitting. You will need to give it a little push when you slide the tablet into the case and use the pull handle to help pull out the tablet from case. If you are looking to use this sleeve case for another 7" tablet, make sure it's smaller in dimensions than the Nexus 7. We tested the Kindle Fire tablet which is very similar to the Nexus 7 in size, and found case to be a little too tight, as it kept pushing the power on/off button when we put the tablet in or take it out of the case.

The interior of the Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase has soft Ultrasuede lining and since the case is a form fitting, the interior also cleans the screen of the tablet effectively when you store it in the caes. Eve the closure flip has a soft interior lining that feels nice in hand. Both front and back of the case have stiff insert. Though they do add bulk to the case, they provide serious protection against shock damage. There is also an open-top pocket on the back of the case. You can store business cards in the pocket, but nothing too thick like your phone.

As with many WaterField cases, the Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase is TSA Checkpoint Friendly which means the case doesn't have anything that obstructs the view of the security scanners.

It's very easy to carry the Nexus 7 in the Ultimate SleeveCase in your hand or toss it in your bag, but if you need to carry it on your shoulder, you can do that with the Ultimate SleeveCase. WaterField Designs offers several shoulder strap options including D-rings, regular strap and serious suspension strap.

Summary

The Nexus 7 Ultimate SleeveCase is an ideal carrying solution if you take your Nexus 7 on the road, and store it in your backpack or travel case. The thick insert and indestructible nylon protect the tablet from slashes, bumps and shocks; while the soft interior and strong inserts protect the screen and surface of the tablet. The case is light, though not slim, and is very well built. You won't have to worry about the tablet if it gets some water splashes while in this case thanks to the exterior material. The extreme form fitting means your Nexus 7 will get a body cleaning each time it's stored inside of the case, but it also means you won't be able to store much more than a few business cards in the back pocket. The large Velcro closure shuts the case very securely but the opening of the Velcro is quite loud, so be sure to open the case before walking into a quiet meeting.

Price: $59, more if you need d-rings or straps
