What's Hot: Form fitting, high quality material and nicely built, many carrying options available.

What's Not: No hard insert for better shock protection.

WateField Designs offers one of their most popular cases for the new 15" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. The SleeveCase for Mac Laptops is a form fitting sleeve case that offers very good protection with its strong exterior and super soft interior. The case is also very lightweight, easy to carry inside of another bag or backpack, or with additional D-ring and shoulder strap option for carrying it stand-alone. We look at the SleeveCase for Mac Laptops in its basic configuration but with a brown leather trim.

Design

The WaterField Designs SleeveCase for Mac Laptops is made with very strong ballistic nylon exterior and high-grade neoprene interior. The water-resistant nylon surface feels strong and can protect your notebook from scratches, slashes and nicks. It attracts dirt but it's also easy enough to clean. The case has a bottom trim that provides ample space to accommodate the thickness of the notebook and a visual break for large bags. The trim comes in either Lead Indium (default) or brown leather. You can get the SleeveCase for Mac Laptops in either horizontal or vertical orientation depending on how you want to load the notebook in the case. The case has a large heavy-duty closure tab with Velcro to keep it shut securely, and a pull hook on the bottom to help you take the notebook out of the case easily. The SleeveCase is made to fit specific MacBook models, so when you order it, be sure to pick the one that's designed for your notebook. The SleeveCase for the 15.4" MacBook Pro with Retina Display fits the notebook snuggly. We tested the regular MacBook Pro 15", the case fit fine as well.

The interior of the SleeveCase for the MacBook Pro is soft and plush. The neoprene lining is very soft with thick padding, and it covers the entire interior including the bottom. Since the case is very form fitting, the soft and padded interior holds your notebook in place nicely, and won't scratch the surface or let the notebook rattle inside of the case. The SleeveCase looks to be very well built with strong and even stitching. There is also a large pocket on the back of the sleeve that has enough room for your notebook charger, cables, adapters and USB drive, but they fit tightly.

Features

As with most cases and bags, you can customize the SleeveCase for the MacBook Pro with Retina Display. WaterField Designs offers it for the 11.6" and 13.3" MacBook Air models, 13.3", 15.3" and 17" MacBook Pro models as well as the 15.4" MacBook Pro with Retina Display. The price for the basic model is the same, and you can choose to put the closure tab in either horizontal or vertical orientation. The brown leather trim, closure flap and shoulder strap options will cost more in addition. There is also an option to get a small pouch for additional storage space.

Conclusion

The SleeveCase for the MacBook Pro from WaterField Designs is form fitting, compact yet very protective. The flexibility of ordering the configuration that fits your carry need is liberating. The case is lightweight which is great for travelers who carry their notebooks on the road, the SleeveCase is TSA Checkpoint Friendly which means the case doesn't have anything obscuring the view of security scanners. For the price, you are getting a great bag for all the protection and convenience it offers.

Price: $49 starting price.
