Kensington has released several case models for the Samsung Galaxy S III including a soft case, a hard case, a wallet style portfolio case and a leather case. The Kensington Soft Case comes in blue and black, and we look at the blue one for this review. The Kensington Soft Case for Samsung Galaxy S III is made with rubber and fits the Android smartphone like a glove. It's very easy to install and take off, and it prevents nicks and scratches for the back of the large phone.
The Kensington Soft Case for Samsung Galaxy S III is made with soft rubber. It's strange that the rubber on the Soft case is actually more flexible and softer than the one used in Kensington's Gel Case. The good thing is that it's not slippery like the Gel case on the back and makes it easy to handle the large phone. The rubber case has soft coating that feels nice in hand but has some texture. The case is very flexible and it's super easy to put it on the phone and take it off. The Soft case has about the same thickness as the Gel case, and can certain prevent scratches and bumps to the back of the phone. It can also absorb some shock should you drop the phone while in the case.
The Kensington Soft Case for Samsung Galaxy S III wraps around the sides of the smartphone and covers quite a bit of the front display glass. It won't obscure your view of the screen or get in the way of using it, but it provides very nice protection for the glass when you put the phone face down as well as the sides and corners of the phone since it wraps around them nicely. The case adds only 0.8 oz. to the phone's weight.
The Kensington Soft Case for Samsung Galaxy S III is a functional case. It has a large cutout for the back camera, flash and speaker cluster and in our tests, the camera had full view and the flash wasn't blocked either. The case has perfect cutouts for the top audio jack and the bottom sync/charge port as well as the dual mics. The side buttons that don't need to be exposed including the power button and the volume buttons hide under the rubber with raised pieces mark the spots. The case protects the buttons and helps prevent accidental presses of these buttons when the phone is in the case. You should have no trouble using any headphones and sync/charge cables while the Galaxy S III is in the case.
While the case protects the front glass when the face is face down, the case doesn't cover the front screen nor comes with any screen protector. But the case should work with any protective film you get for the display glass.
Simple and easy to use, the Kensington Soft Case for Samsung Galaxy S III is a good case for daily use. It can certain protect the phone from being scratches, mars, nicks and bumps in your bag and backpack, and its texture helps handle the phone nicely. The case is highly functional with cutouts at the right places and buttons protected. The case is light and fits the phone perfectly. We wish the case came in white and red to match the U.S. versions of the Galaxy S III but those who have the black version will enjoy the black case. If you need a screen protector you'll need to get your own.
