iPhone 5 Case Review: Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet for iPhone 5 Review

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5

What's Hot: Slim and very protective of the entire iPhone 5, comes in nice colors.

What's Not: The hard shell feels hard on the ear during a long phone call.

Kensington is now offering a good number of cases for the new iPhone 5. The Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet is a form fitting case that covers the entire phone including a front flip that comes with credit card slots. The case is super easy to use and comes in a variety of colors and textures.

Design

The Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet for iPhone 5 is a very protective case. The case that holds the iPhone 5 is plastic and rigid, providing good protection against scratches, nicks, bumps and even drop shock. The plastic case has soft felt like lining and it's quite easy to put the iPhone 5 into the case and take it out. The Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet has a front flip cover that has two layers of faux leather with a thin layer of soft padding. The case closes elegantly and securely over the top of the phone by a small tab that has built-in magnet. The exterior of the Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet is faux leather. It currently comes in 6 colors in different textures including green, orange and tan in faux nappa leather, teal in faux ostrich and black in faux snake texture. The plastic cases come in different colors from the faux leather, providing contrasting colors.

While the Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet for iPhone 5 provides strong protection and covers the entire phone, the case keeps a slim profile. The front flip cover also has two credit card sized slots for the added convenience. The case is also light, weighing only 1.4 ounces. The only thing that we found wasn't completely comfortable on this case was the hard plastic edge felt a little hard on the ear if you hold the phone next to your ear for long voice calls.

Features

The Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet is a very functional case thanks to the perfect cutouts on the plastic phone case. The wallet case has a large cutout on the side that exposes the silence button and the volume buttons for easy access. The rear camera cutout has a nice plastic frame with curved bezel. It gives the camera full view and the flash enough space to fully illuminate. The cutout for the top power button is perfect aligned, and the case leaves out most of the bottom part of the phone open for access to the Lightning port, speaker, mic and the audio jack.

Conclusion

The Kensington Portafolio Flip Wallet for iPhone 5 is an attractive looking case that's slim and very protective. We love the case because it protects the entire phone and comes in a variety of colors and textures. All the cutouts ensure you can fully operate the phone without taking it out of the case. And you get to take a couple of credit cards or an ID and a credit card with you along with your iPhone 5 in this case.
