Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch Video Review
      #45073 - 08/01/13 10:31 AM

The Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch wants to be your back to school or ready for work Ultrabook. Starting at $649, it's less expensive than the usual $1,000 and up Ultrabook, yet you get most of the perks: Intel Core ULV CPUs, a metal casing and reasonably thin 0.70" design. The budget pricing means you'll forgo some higher end amenities like a full HD display and SSD drives, but for those on a tight budget, you get enough of the good stuff here to enjoy a very competent and a attractive laptop.

The 13.3" U310 Touch has a 1366 x 768 screen that offers 10 points of multi-touch. The resolution is average for a smaller notebook, but obviously falls short of the 1920 x 1080 displays found in more expensive products like Lenovo's own ThinkPad Helix and the Sony Vaio Pro 13. This isn't an IPS panel, so viewing angles aren't wide, but colors are pleasing, contrast is good and brightness is average.

Lenovo's unique U series "designer" journal or book styling is here and it looks and feels like a well made laptop that's several steps above boring, plastic laptops generally found in this price range. The metal casing is solid, the AccuType keyboard is firm and all case seams are so tight you'd be hard pressed to find them. The U310 Touch has a better than average port selection with Ethernet, two USB 3.0 ports, 1 USB 2.0 port, 3.5mm audio and an SD card slot on board.

So what's missing from a higher end machine? As noted you don't get IPS or full HD, the keyboard isn't backlit, the drive is a spinning HDD rather than SSD (though you can get it with a 24 gig caching drive to speed up boot times) and it has single band WiFi.

Here's our Lenovo IdeaPad U310 Touch video review. Our full written review will follow.
