Moto X vs. HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Comparison Smackdown
      #45206 - 08/31/13 11:53 AM

The Moto X, HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 are three top smartphones that are, or will be available on every major US carrier for $199 with contract. The Moto X is the newest, and it takes a different approach that focuses on ergonomics and features that folks actually use and need rather than the endless specs race. I'll confess: I like Motorola's thinking- we really don't need even faster phones or raging pixel densities that only a microscope can appreciate. We need phones that have big screens but are easy and welcoming to hold. Quality materials and features that keep us safe or save time are important too.

The HTC One strikes back with a gorgeous and classy unibody aluminum design and a sharp full HD LCD with natural colors and good outdoor viewability. It comes with 32 gigs of storage in the base model vs. 16 for the Moto X and Galaxy S4. It has a clean UI and those features that are added feel well thought out and not overbearing or taxing on the phone. The One, like the GS4, has a top of the line (for now) quad core Snapdragon 600 CPU.

The Samsung Galaxy S4 answers with a removable battery and micro SD card slot; it's the only one in this trio to offer those features. Though glossy and plasticky, it feels good in the hand despite its large screen and big size. The other two have 4.7" displays and the Galaxy S4 has a full HD 5" Super AMOLED display. Then there's the boatload of Samsung custom software, some of which is useful, while other pieces are dubious. Though the GS4 is clocked the highest, it's not always the fastest in actual use because all that software takes its toll.

Here's our Moto X vs. HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 Comparison Smackdown.
