Laptop Case Review: XGearlive EXO Skin 2 for MacBook Air Review
      #45988 - 01/31/14 10:07 AM

The XGearlive EXO Skin 2 is a durable vinyl skin that can protect your laptop's exterior and palm rest. The skin is easy to install and removes cleanly. The EXO Skin 2 comes in six colors and it's available for all MacBook Air models from 2010 models and on, the MacBook Pro 13" and 15" from 2008 models on and the new MacBook Pro Retina 13" and 15" models.

Design

The XGearlive EXO Skin 2 stands out from other skins for its tough and durable vinyl material and its incredibly attractive colors. The skin covers the entire top cover of the MacBook Air, leaving only the Apple logo exposed and letting the light shine through the logo. The skin covers the entire bottom of the MacBook laptop, exposing only the rubber feet, the screws and the hinge. In addition to the exterior protection, the EXO Skin 2 also covers the palm rest on the keyboard deck. The skin is only 0.017 inches thick, but it feels more durable than many other skins we've seen and a lot less filmy. The skin can certainly protect the MacBook laptops from scratches, marks and bumps, and it also makes the metal casing and the palm rest feel less cold. The matte surface also provides better grip.

The XGearlive EXO Skin 2 for the MacBook Air with Retina comes in six colors including black, puple, red, blue, pink and red. These colors look very opaque in very pleasing and complex mix. The colors are eye-catching yet don't look primary. The EXO Skin 2 comes in three pieces and the cut matches the surface of the notebook model perfectly.

Feature

The XGearlive EXO Skin 2 offers the easiest installation thanks to its durable material that feels stiffer than thinner vinyl skins. It's easy to install the skin and avoid any air bubbles, and if you need help on the installation, XGearlive has an instruction video to help. If you happen to trap some air, simply lift the area and re-install it. Luckily, the EXO Skin 2 removes cleanly and leaves no adhesive residue on your MacBook laptop. It's a good idea to thoroughly clean the surface of your MacBook Air or MacBook Pro before installing the skin. After using it for over a month, we found the skin fairing well and only some small areas on the edges of the top cover started to rise up a bit after we put the laptop in or take it out of our laptop bag. You can press down these areas and they'll stay put until something rubs and raises them again.

Conclusion

The XGearlive EXO Skin 2 is a solid laptop skin that will last you for a while. The material is sturdier and more durable and we love all the color choices. The skin is very easy to install and re-install, and it doesn't leave any adhesive residue after removal. The EXO 2 skill is available for all MacBook models from recent years.
