Rhino Shield Screen Protector for iPhone 5/5s Review
      #47285 - 11/07/14 07:26 PM

If you need a screen protector, spend the extra money and get the Rhino Shield. They don't get any better. If you want your phone's screen unscratched, un-nicked and showing very little fingerprint oil, this is the way to go.

The Rhino Shield fits your iPhone 5/5s/5c screen perfectly; and I DO MEAN perfectly. If you're off, even a smidge, it may cause the other side to lift or develop bubbles due to it coming into contact with the edge of your phone. As with all screen covers, proper installation is absolutely key. Due to its rigid design, the Rhino Shield installs much easier than flexible screen protectors, and will not develop bubbles except when lint or dust are present. Thoroughly wiping your iPhone's screen prior to installation will remove everything that is already there, but a surprising amount of dust can settle on your screen in just the few moments it takes to install a cover. After a few years at this, I've found that it helps to install these under the range hood in my kitchen, with the exhaust fan on its highest setting. Of course, if your fan isn't very strong it may actually make it worse by causing local dust to go airborne, so expect your mileage to vary.

Features and Quality

Unlike most screen protectors, the Rhino Shield is a rigid piece of plastic. This not only provides additional impact protection, but it also feels smoother, and is less prone to scratches than soft covers. As good as it is, however, it's not going to compare to your iPhone's Gorilla Glass for scratch protection so don't throw your keys in your pocket with your phone, or have at it with cutlery. One very welcome touch is the oleophobic coating. Similar to the one that comes on your iPhone screen, it will resist oily smudges surprisingly well. According to the manufacturer, the Rhino Shield will absorb 5 times the impact energy of Gorilla Glass. If you're one of those daredevils that I see walking around with your iPhone exposed to the world, do yourself a favor and at least spring for one of these babies. If you install it right you may even forget its there until it saves your bacon.

Summary

One of the best, if not the best, screen protectors on the market thanks to its impressive impact protection. Especially recommended for those iPhone users who eschew cases.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5
What's Hot: Rigid design provides impact protection. Oleophobic coating resists fingerprints. Nearly bubble-free installation. Smooth, non-tacky finish.
What's Not: Pricey for a screen protector. Plastic construction is stronger than most, but still more susceptible to scratches than your iPhone's Gorilla Glass screen.
Price: $24.99
