Native Union Night Cable Review
      #47316 - 11/14/14 08:39 PM

It's a rare thing when someone pays attention to one of the most used accessories, the charging cable. Sure, there're some improved tangle-free cables such as the Ventev flat chargesync cables that prevent twisting and tangling, but most of the charging cables including the ones that come with your devices are quite short, leaving us wishing for longer ones that will reach any power outlets within our reach. Native Union's Night Cable provides us with a 10-feet long cable and on top of that, it comes with a weighted "knot" so that your charging connector can stay on your desk or bed stand. The Night Cable comes in three color options.

The design of the Night Cable is what makes it unique and useful. The braided nylon cable is as sturdy as a climbing rope though not as thick. It's stiffer than most charging cables we've seen, and it certainly will not turn into a tangling mess. The 10-feet length feels indeed luxurious. It comes in very handy whether you plop down on a couch or wander at the airport and suddenly need to charge your phone or tablet. And let's face it, who hasn't run into a situation where your charging cable is just too short?

The Night Cable comes in three colors, including Red, Marine (close to ultramarine color) and Zebra. The retro style braiding looks good in all three color options. The anchor ball's color matches the cable's. The Night Cable isn't lightweight however, weighing at 4.8 ounces.

In addition to the conveniently long cable, the Night Cable has a knotted ball in the same braided nylon material and is attached to the cable via a plastic ring. The ball is weighty and you can slide it to rest anywhere on the cable. The idea is that when you finish charging your device, you don't want the charging plug to slip under a desk or behind a bed board. You want it right where you leave it for the next time when you need to charge your device again. The weight of the ball keeps the cable plug on a table or any flat surface. Speaking of charging plug, the Night Cable is available with either a Lightning connector or a micro USB connector though the micro USB version currently is only available in Zebra color.

The old "Ball and Chain" concept morphs into a modern mobile accessory that makes it easier to charge your phones or tablets. The design translates the idea into function very well. We love the length of the cable and the color options. Both iOS and Android device owners can take advantage of the Night Cable thanks to both charging connectors being available. The only thing to consider if you want to take it on the road is that the Night Cable is heavier than most charging cable.
