Fonesalesman WoodPuck Bamboo Wireless Charger Review
      #47564 - 01/13/15 09:06 PM

The WoodPuck Bamboo Wireless Charger is a Qi wireless charging supported charger that works with all Qi compatible devices and offers charging adapters for devices such as the iPhone models with Lightning connectors and the Samsung Galaxy Note 4, the Samsung Galaxy S5 and S4, the Galaxy Note 3 and the Samsung Galaxy Alpha.

Design

The WoodPuck Bamboo Wireless Charger comes in a round pad that's 3.85" in diameter and 0.39" in thickness. As the name implies, the wireless charging pad has a bamboo exterior over the Qi charging base that hides the microUSB charging port and the plug under the wooden puck. The charger comes with a cable or you can use your phone cable with the charger. The WoodPuck Bamboo weighs 2.8 ounces. The wooden charging pad looks natural and should fit most office and home decor. If you don't like the wooden one, fonesalesman also offers plastic Koolpad chargers as well.

Features

First let's talk compatibility. The WoodPuck supports all Qi-compatible devices such as the Nexus 6, the Droid Turbo, the Nokia Lumia 930, as well as the Nexus 7. We tested all of these devices and found they all worked with the wireless charger flawlessly. With devices that don't have Qi charging built-in, fonesalesman offers wireless charging receivers for the most popular Apple and Samsung devices. With the iPhone models, the receiver connects the Lightning port on the iPhone to the conductive charging receiver. The receiver works with all iPhone models that have the Lightning port and it works when the iPhones in any protective case. For the Samsung devices that have removable battery doors, the wireless charging receiver comes in the form of the PWRcard that connects directly to the phone's battery and lies flat against the battery to provide conductive charging capability. The receivers for the Samsung devices are custom designed for each supported device and all receivers are sold separately from the WoodPuck charger.

With both Qi-compatible devices and the devices supported by iQi receivers, the WoodPuck Bamboo Wireless Charger works with all easily. The charger outputs 5V 600mA power and it had no trouble charging all the phones and even the Nexus 7 tablet in our tests. Wireless charging isn't usually fast and the WoodPuck has normal charging speed. It charges the iPhone 6 in 2.5-3 hours and the Nexus 6 in over 3 hours. The WoodPuck offers audible alerts if the phone or receiver isn't placed at the right spot, and it gives an audio confirmation when it starts and finishes charging. It has wireless charging efficiency rate of 72%.

Conclusion

The WoodPuck Bamboo Wireless Charger is a very capable Qi charger that also looks nice in any office or home environment. The charger is easy to use with any devices that support Qi charging. It offers one of the easiest ways for popular devices such as iPhone models and Samsung models that don't have native Qi charging support to work with wireless Qi chargers. We like the look of the charger and the additional receivers that make use of the charging pad.
