SwitchEasy AirMask for iPhone 6/6 Plus Review
      #47568 - 01/14/15 07:17 PM

The AirMask is a set of thin plastic covers that will make your beautiful iPhone 6 Plus look like a child's toy while providing protection from everyday scratches and scuffs. First of all, the AirMask is not a case; it's a single-use set of adhesive plastic covers that, once applied, will add only 10 grams of weight to your phone, and no noticeable size. Like most screen protectors, proper installation requires luck, patience, and precision; and even after five attempts, I was still unable to get the edges to line up completely. Each attempt resulted in a different corner not sealing completely, which caused the cover to come apart during daily use.

Features and Quality

For some people, even the most minimalist cases are too bulky. These purists prefer to enjoy the unfettered beauty of their iPhones. The AirMask by SwitchEasy is directed squarely at this crowd. Unfortunately, while the AirMask adds almost no weight or bulk to a device, the level of protection it provides is so minimal as to beg the question: "why use it at all"? As previously described, the AirMask is a set of thin plastic covers (front and back). It is anchored with a light adhesive, which means that, like screen protectors, this is a single-use item. Once properly installed (I was unable to ever install the AirMask correctly), your phone will feel as thin and light as a naked device, yet be protected from everyday scratches. Sort of like putting plastic covers over the leather seats in your new Bentley; they will indeed be protected, but at a disproportionate cost to elegance and style (more on this in the next section).

Style

The AirMask is available in grey, silver, and gold; all of which feature a ridiculously tacky textured finish that will make your sleek iPhone look like a plastic child's toy.

Summary

Because of the poor fit, lack of real world protection, and tacky appearance, I can't really recommend the AirMask to anyone. Yes, it will provide everyday scratch protection, but nothing more, and will mask all of the beauty of your highly scratch-resistant metal and hardened glass iPhone in the process.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 2.5
What's Hot: Light and thin. Integrated screen protector.
What's Not: Only protects against scratches. Single-use only. Imperfect fit. Textured plastic construction not attractive.
