Urban Armor Gear Scout Folio for iPhone 6 Review
      #47606 - 01/22/15 07:22 PM

The Folio style case is the new design in Urban Armor Gear's arsenal and it gives the phone more protection on the front compared to the company's signature rugged shell case. The Folio for iPhone 6 comes in two color options, Scout (black) and Rogue (red with black bumper). The Folio case meets military drop-test standards yet it has a cool design that everybody can fall in love with.

Design

The Urban Armor Gear Scout Folio is sturdily built yet lightweight. The Folio has Urban Armor Gear's patented honeycomb core with soft rubberized exterior. The surface has an interesting texture that feels both soft and slippery. This material, Frogskin as UAG calls it, is also water resistant and it's grippy even when wet. The hard and sturdy shell wraps around the sides and corners of the iPhone 6 with extra bumper on the corners for shock absorption. The Folio case passes MIL STD 810G for drop and shock tests. The addition of the front cover gives the iPhone 6's front glass more protection than a screen film and the interior of the Folio has super fine fabric lining that's extra kind to the screen. The Scout Folio comes in black all around and the Rogue Folio comes in maroon-like red cover and back with black bumper on the side and black interior.

Features

The Urban Armor Gear Scout Folio is not only a great looking case but also very functional. The thick shell covers the back of the phone, though it has vent grille on the back to let heat out in case you're running 3D games on your phone. The case covers the power button and volume buttons, but it's very easy to use these controls through the case. The cutout for the rear camera/flash/mic is perfectly positioned and the cutouts on the bottom give you easy access to the Lightning port and the audio port as well as let the phone's audio through.

The front cover has a single card slot that can hold up to three cards and the case's shell rises above the front display to give some room for the bulk that the card slot might add. With the raised sides around the screen, the Folio case has a curved cut below the Home button so that the case doesn't get in the way of you using the fingerprint scanner. The front cover has a closure tab that wraps around the back and shuts securely via the magnetic closure. The front cover also has a cutout over the earpiece in case you wish to have a phone conversation without opening the cover. The cutout to the silence button is large enough for you to slide it easily.

Conclusion

For those who have enjoyed Urban Armor Gear's rugged cases but wished to have more protection for the screen, the Folio case is the perfect answer. It's nicely designed and very well made with perfect cutouts and protection for the buttons. The case adds some bulk to the slim phone but it's quite light. The rugged case that passes Mil-STD test just got more stylish with a front cover and the heat vent on the back. We like both color options and the grippy exterior and soft interior.
