Moshi VersaCover Case for iPad Air 2 Review
      #47834 - 03/16/15 08:08 PM

We've been looking for a slim case that has a built-in stand ever since the iPad Air 2 came out, and we finally found it in Moshi's VersaCover case. The VersaCover is not only slim but also has a clear shell that doesn't hide the gorgeous look of your iPad Air 2. The case is light and nibble, and the built-in stand can position the tablet in either portrait or landscape orientation. The Moshi VersaCover comes in four interesting colors.

Design

Moshi's VersaCover case has always been one of our favorite tablet case series, and the VersaCover Case for the iPad Air 2 is no exception. The case offers a form fitting polycarbonate shell that's slim yet can protect the back of your tablet from scratches, scuffs and bumps. The clear shell gives you a full view of the iPad Air 2's back and in turn the tablet looks modern and sleek in this case. There are three rubber feet on the corners of the shell, preventing the tablet from slipping and sliding on a slippery surface. The only other thing that the case adds to the back visually is a small metal "moshi" logo, though that's not only for branding purposes. The metal piece has built-in magnet so that when you flip over the front cover and fold it back, the magnet in the metal piece can hold it securely to the back.

The VersaCover has an origami front cover that protects the display of the iPad Air 2. The exterior of the cover is faux leather and the interior has microfiber lining. Unlike the clear back that disappears when you put your tablet in the case, the front cover comes in four intense colors including Denim Blue, Metro Black, Sakura Pink and Almond Tan (pictured here).

Features

The Moshi VersaCover offers cutouts to all ports and buttons on the iPad Air 2 so that you can use all functions while the tablet is in the case. The cutouts also are not only well thought out for function but offer a touch of style in shapes. Buttons are exposed for easy access. The only button that requires a firm press is the power button, designed so that you don't accidently press it easily. Nothing gets in the way of you using the ports either. The thinness of the case also means you can use most docking stations, speakers and clocks.

The front cover doubles as a built-in stand and it works as most origami cover stands do. The stand can position the iPad Air 2 in two landscape viewing angles, one for movie watching and the other for typing on screen keyboard. It can also prop up the tablet in portrait mode for ebook reading and web page browsing. The stand is steady and using the touch screen doesn't make the tablet wobble. One thing to keep in mind though, if you keep the tablet on its stand for long period of time, the top and bottom flaps on the cover might curl up when you close it. The front cover also supports iPad's auto sleep and wake feature.

Conclusion

Slim and light, the Moshi VersaCover is a great case for the office, home and commute. The clear back lets the iPad Air 2's aluminum body shines through and the versatile cover turns into a steady stand that can position your tablet for any task. The case is very functional and works with most accessories for docking and charging. We like the colors of the front cover and the nice little touches like the magnet in the Moshi logo that keeps the cover back when it's open. The stand does bend the edge sections of the cover which can curl up and not shut properly.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5
What's Hot: Slim and light, good protection, versatile built-in stand.
What's Not: Thin cover doesn't hold its rigidity well after bending as a stand.
