Incase Portable Power 2500 External Battery Pack Review
      #47978 - 04/24/15 03:18 PM

The Incase external battery is a high quality and stylish mobile power solution. However, questionable design decisions means its easily beaten in every category by almost every other battery pack. The Portable Power 2500 is approximately 4" x 2", which is small enough for most purses/backpacks/briefcases, but too big for most pockets.

Features and Quality

How many times have you been on-the-go, and wanted to recharge your battery pack but realized that you forgot to bring your full-sized USB Cable? What's that? Never?! Yeah, me too. Now, how many times have you been in that same situation, except this time you realized that you didn't have a cable to connect from your battery pack to your phone? A lot, right? Again, me too. That's what makes the Portable Power 2500 such an odd duck. Why go to the trouble to integrate a cable to recharge the battery pack, while leaving a cable to charge your device conspicuously absent. Unfortunately, this isn't the 2500's only problem. Its measly 2500mAh capacity isn't enough to recharge current model smartphones, and considering this capacity, it's bulky, and expensive. 4 years ago, the Portable Power 2500 would have been the talk of the town. However, external batteries have gotten a lot more powerful, a lot smaller, and a lot cheaper since then; and this one just can't compete. On the plus side, it features Incase's superior build quality, outputs at 2A for fast charging, and is quite a bit more stylish than most other batteries on the market.

Style

The Portable Power 2500 oozes style and class, thanks to its high-gloss finish, and three color options (black, pink, and grey).

Summary

Unless you've got an older smartphone with less ravenous power requirements, and you have an unusually generous backup battery budget; I really can't recommend the Portable Power 2500. It's underpowered, expensive, and bulky (for its capacity), and the inclusion of the wrong type of built-in cable will just be confusing for some. As with all Incase products, however, it's well-made and has style to burn.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 2
What's Hot: Easily recharges via integrated USB Cable. 2A output. Quality construction.
What's Not: 2500mAh capacity is not enough for current model phones. Must purchase/carry separate cable for your device. Expensive and bulky for its capacity.
Price: $49.95
