iHome iBT32 SoundFlask Bluetooth Speaker Review
      #48131 - 06/04/15 08:11 PM

At first glance you might think that this is something designed for heavy drinkers who need a bottle of the good stuff but want it in a classy flask. And you would be wrong. The iHome iBT32 SoundFlask Bluetooth Speaker is a very convincingly looking drink container that is actually a wireless stereo speaker. Turning the top cap gets you nowhere near a sip of tasty drink but it can turn up the volume of music that blasts out of its four small drivers. The Bluetooth speaker also hides a rechargeable battery that can power up your phone or even a tablet. The small speaker lacks no volume but has muddied sound, and it can also function as a speakerphone.

The iHome iBT32 SoundFlask not only has the deceiving look but it also has the authentic metal construction of a real flask. It features chrome top and bottom, a metal speaker grille on the front and a leather wrap on the back. As mentioned the cap is the volume dial and the top of the flask has play/pause button, track control buttons and the power button. These top buttons live under a rubber cover and they're large and very easy to use. The bottom of the speaker, hiding under another rubber cover, offers access to the micro USB recharge port, the AUX in port and a full USB charging port. That's right, you can charge up your phone or tablet using the speaker's built-in battery or via its power pass-through. The metal construction is sturdy and long lasting, and it also weighs a little over one pound.

The iHome SoundFlask has four small front firing drivers for big sound. The volume from this small speaker can fill up a large room, and sound doesn't get blown out or grading at high volume either. The powerful audio would've been a blessing had the audio were a little clearer. Alas, the audio sounds muddy in both music and video playback. Most music tracks sounded muddy especially around the bass in our tests, and deeper male voices in movies/TV shows sounded distorted. The mid and treble had better clarity in our tests. The speaker has built-in mic and it works decently as a conference speakerphone.

Bluetooth and Battery

The iHome SoundFlask is very easy to pair with smartphones and tablets. It goes into auto pairing mode when you turn it on, and use your phone to pair and connect with it. The speaker supports both mono and stereo Bluetooth profiles and offers alert sounds, and media playback controls for your phone.

The iHome SoundFlask has a special ability of recharging your phone or tablet using either the built-in battery or via AC as it supports power pass-through. The built-in battery can fill up a good portion of an iPhone 6 battery and about 20% of an iPad Air 2 battery. The iHome SoundFlask comes with a micro USB recharge cable, an AC adapter and a 3.5mm audio cable for the AUX port. It takes about 8 hours to recharge the speaker's battery.

A unique and stylish wireless speaker that's loud and easy to use, the iHome SoundFlask would look good on your coffee table or your bar at home or office. The audio is decent if you don't hate the muffling sound of bass notes and deep voices. The speaker can work as your mobile conference call speaker and it can charge your mobile devices at the same time of playing tunes. We love the sturdy construction of the speaker and the loud volume, only wish the audio were clearer to make this an attractive addition to any office or home.
