Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker Review
      #48177 - 06/17/15 04:36 PM

The Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker is a small portable wireless speaker with loud and clear sound. About the length and width of the iPhone 6, though much thicker than the slim phone, the CURATRO can go anywhere indoors and outdoors, at home and office or on the road. The speaker has good clarity for music tracks, good volume and both line in and out. It has Bluetooth 4.0 and offers decent battery life. The CURATRO comes in five solid colors: black, blue, green, orange and red.

The Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker is very portable. It measures 5.45 x2.5 x 1.95 inches and weighs 12.2 ounces. The small speaker houses two 3-watt drivers in a stiff and sturdy body that has a layer of rubber exterior. The exterior comes in five solid colors. The media playback controls live on the front of the speaker at the upper left corner, and the power slider, charging port and audio in and out ports live on the back of the speaker. The CURATRO has two track lines that can prevent the speaker from slipping on surfaces, like glass, and the track lines allow you to position the speaker to face up or front. The speaker comes with a micro USB charging cable.

The Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker has a big sound for such a small body. It can certainly fill up a large room and the sound doesn't distort when the volume is turned to max. The CURATRO offers surprisingly clear audio for many music genres, and it performed the best with vocal tracks. Most music tracks sound decent and quite loud with good dynamics. It does have a little bit of the small speaker syndrom: the highs sound a little harsh and the bass isn't very strong.

The CURATRO has Bluetooth 4.0 built-in and supports both hands-free profiles and A2DP stereo profiles. It works well as a speakerphone for phone calls also. The play button doubles as call answering button. The speaker is easy to pair and connect wireless, and it works with any smartphone and tablet that has Bluetooth. The CURATRO has shorter than average Bluetooth range. We got about 12 feet before the speaker lost the connection with an iPhone 6 in our tests.

The Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker has a built-in rechargeable battery that has decent battery life. For music playback, we got about 6 hours of playtime. Standby time isn't very good, especially if you take your phone in and out of the range too often as the speaker keeps seeking to reconnect. The speaker takes about 4 hours to recharge via AC.

The Urge Basics CURATRO Bluetooth Speaker is a loud and clear speaker that's ultra portable. It can fit in a backpack or travel bag easily and provide loud audio for music and movie playback as well as phone calls and conference calls. The CURATRO is easy to use and it works with any smartphone or tablet with built-in Bluetooth. The highs are sometimes tinny and the bass could use more strength; but for a $50 (street price) speaker, the CURATRO is a good buy.
