The Kyocera 7135 is reliable, has an MP3 player and is great for Internet access too. Verizon's coverage in the US is usually excellent as well.

The only thing I would caution you of is not to purchase a Kyocera product if you are trying to sync your smartphone to a Mac computer.

Why's that? I sync my Kyocera 7135 Palm OS Smarphone to my TiBook.
