Sometimes nothing like a battle to relieve the stress, right? If that is your case then iTank Battle can be a good alternative.
There is no story just stages but you can select Easy, Normal or Hard mode. The goal is to achieve a high score. However, the online feature mixes all difficulty modes in one single board. OpenFeint would be a lot better.
Loading time is fast and the game can properly resume. A good pick up and play tank battle.
The initial screen is polished and organized. Options include volumes adjustments and control settings: analog alike d-pad (fixed at left) and tilt (no calibration).
Gameplay
The goal is rather simple: defend your base using just your tank through out the 30 stages, if you survive of course.
You move your tank using one of the two available controls: tilt (works well but the lack of the calibration makes it very limited) and analog four way d-pad (small area to tap but you may get use to it ? or not!).
To shot you have just to tap anywhere on the screen. Just note that your next missile will be ready after the previous one is gone or hit an enemy.
Finally, you can count on the following power-ups that pop up along the game:
- Freeze all enemies - Recover full HP - Speed up - Additional cannon-shot - Add-on missile launcher - Invincible - Additional life - Destroy all enemies on the screen
You?ll face different enemies with different features. Some are bigger and stronger but there are smaller and faster tanks too. Their behavior is kind of chaotic. They seem to randomly go here and there and they shot all the time, no matter if you are in range or not. In addition, if an opponent reaches your base it may shot once and just go away. Why not destroy the base for good?
For each stage a different scenario with different obstacles, including healing towers for the enemies. By the way, you can destroy the towers too (optional) but don?t do it to close to them!
However, even though you will play different scenarios the game does not change that much. The game gets repetitive. Your tank mostly feels the same. I?d love to upgrade it in a super tank and have that power feeling growing in my veins.
Once an enemy destroys your base the game is over.
Graphics
The game has a polished interface and the game graphics and animations are simple but they work well for the game.
Sound
The game sound effects are kind of basic, nothing special.
There is a background music just for the menu screen.
However, it properly supports iPOD music along with sound effects.
Pros
Simple gameplay 30 stages Different scenarios Power-ups Fast loading time It can properly resume iPOD music support along with sound effects
Cons
Simple graphics and sounds Repetitive gameplay Limited online score board Your tank feels mostly the same
Conclusion
iTank Battle is a good pick up and play game with a balanced set of features. I just wish the tank itself would become visually more powerful along the stages. Bigger, faster and stronger with different weapons.
