Those are the instructions I used to create my image on a USB drive. The Mac section tells you how to use Diskutils to make an image but it doesn't say anything concrete about booting a Mac with it afterwards.
I tried booting my Mac Pro from the drive (by holding the option key at boot to get a boot selection) and all that did was hang the Mac with a gray screen.
