Video review: Archos 7 Home Tablet running Android
      08/04/10 10:29 PM

No doubt, tablets are a hot topic these days, especially Android tablets. The Archos 7 Home Tablet seems incredibly appealing with its low price tag, 7 inch display, Android OS and attractive slim design. But the low price means concessions were made, and the smaller Archos 5 Internet Tablet we reviewed in April actually had a lot more features and a newer version of Android at a much higher price.

The Archos 7 sells for $199 with 8 gigs of internal storage. It's available at online retailers and Expansys USA supplied our review unit. The Archos has a resistive touch screen (you didn't think you'd get a capacitive multi-touch display at this price, did you?), a 600MHz CPU and it runs the positively ancient Android OS 1.5 Cupcake. It has WiFi 802.11b/g but no 3G or Bluetooth, and it has Archos' AppsLib in place of the Android Market. The video and music players are the strong point, but we're not too happy with the fact that the YouTube Player, Google Maps and even the PIM apps have gone missing.

Here's our video review of the Archos 7 Home Tablet:

Our full written review will follow tomorrow.
