Video review: Samsung Epic 4G Android QWERTY superphone on Sprint
      08/20/10 01:28 AM

Sprint's second 4G smartphone, the Samsung Epic 4G will be available on Sprint August 31. Until then, we've got a video review to keep you drooling, and our written review will follow in a few days.

The Epic 4G is a Galaxy S phone in the same family as the Samsung Captivate on AT&T and the Samsung Vibrant on T-Mobile (Verizon will have their version too). The Epic is unique because it's the only US Galaxy phone with a hardware QWERTY keyboard and 4G courtesy of Sprint and Clear's WiMAX network. It has Sprint 3G EV-DO Rev. A as well, for those (likely) times you're not in a WiMAX coverage area.

The Epic 4G has a 4", 800 x 480 pixel Super AMOLED capacitive multi-touch display, Android OS 2.1 with Samsung's TouchWiz UI and a 1GHz Samsung Hummingbird CPU like other Galaxy S phones. It is considerably larger than its slate brethren and it's bigger than the Motorola Droid 2. But if you don't mind the size of the HTC EVO 4G (Sprint's first 4G phone), then the Epic shouldn't be a problem.

The Droid 2, EVO 4G and Samsung Epic 4G.

Other features include a GPS that works with Google Maps and Sprint Navigation, WiFi, Bluetooth and a host of Sprint apps including Sprint TV.

The Epic is definitely a fast phone, and feels like the fastest Galaxy S yet. Just don't expect wonderful battery life with 4G turned on (yes you can turn it off). As with the EVO, Sprint will charge an additional $10/for data.

Here's our 10 minute video review:
