iPhone Game Review: Monster Dash Reviewed by SpaZtrigger
In a world ravaged by monsters there is a lone man running. That man is known as...Barry SteakFries
Equipped with a gun you must run through various worlds in order to kill a bunch of monsters. Loaded with tons of achievements and hilarious comments from Barry himself, you won't get bored.
Monster Dash is an old fashioned 2D side scrolling shooter in which you must blast a bunch of monster brains out while running and jumping. There is only one gameplay and that?s survivial! You get 3 lives to go as far as you can, and encounter numerous power-ups and endless number of monsters along the way. The smooth gameplay and fun elements in Monster Dash bring back fond memories of old arcade side scrolling platformers. And you can fight and die in traditional platformer style. Barry starts out with a regular gun and as he journeys through the treacherous levels he picks up weapons power-ups like the sub machine gun, the Pacifier, the electro-powered Mr. Zappy and the Machine Gun Jetpack. The power-ups make the game fun and are very useful in keeping Barry alive.
At every 1000m interval Barry will teleport to a new location and run even faster, but no matter how power your weapons and how quick your reflexes are, Barry will get himself in trouble. There are three way our crazy Barry can die: he dies Mario style which is to say that you die from a pitfall, he touches a deadly spike or he touches a monster. It?s inevitable, the question is just how far you can go before you lose all three lives. Once you?ve spent all your lives, it?s game over and you get to see your score and Barry saying a witty comment about how he died.
One thing you?ll love in Monster Dash is its ?AHEM? cute monsters. There are a variety of monsters like a mummy, vampire, and demons. The monsters are deadly, but they are entertaining. One thing missing though is boss fights: there are no boss fights in Monster Dash.
The graphics in Monster Dash is unbelievably awesome. The levels are long and have a good variety of environments that look very sharp. The character design is excellent and weapon effects look epic. This is one of the few games in which monsters look cute and their movement entertaining.
To match the highly stylish and sharp visuals, Monster Dash dishes out perfect sound. Each level has brilliant music mixed with great sound FX that fit with the theme of the level. For example, as you enter a demon era where you run along what looks like the Great Wall of China, you get Asian themed music. Should you have your favorite playlist ready for the monster killing mayhem, the game lets you play iPod music.
With super simple and smooth controls, Monster Dash has all the right ingredients for a fun platformer shooter game. The game packs a solid gameplay, outstanding graphics and very nicely done audio package. Gamers who daydream about the good old days of fun 2D platformers will love this game. And for all that you get, the price remains at $0.99.
