Video review: Sony Reader Daily Edition PRS-950 ereader with touch and Pearl E-Ink
      10/30/10 12:17 PM

The final addition in Sony's fall lineup of ebook readers is here, and it sits at the top of the heap with a 7" Pearl E-Ink display and a responsive touch screen and wireless. The PRS-950 has both free 3G and WiFi, and you can use both to shop for books on Sony's eBookstore and use WiFi with the surprisingly capable web browser.

Unlike the last gen Daily Edition PRS-900, the PRS-950 uses infrared beams rather than a resistive touch screen layer, so the Pearl E-Ink display isn't compromised in any way. The display looks as sharp and contrasty as the Amazon Kindle 3 and Kindle DX Graphite with Pearl E-Ink. The Sony Reader Daily Edition is a real pleasure to use in every way, but the price is high at $299. What do you get for the extra bucks vs. the Kindle and Nook? A fantastic touch screen experience, a larger display in a device that's still light and portable and Sony's usual excellent build quality with liberal use of metal in the casing. The web browser is also the fastest among these ereaders and PDF handling is tops.

The Sony Reader line works with ePUB and PDF documents.
