Review: Acer Aspire TimelineX 1830T 11.6" laptop with Intel Core i7

The Acer TimelineX 1830T is our top pick among ultraportable notebooks. It's the size and weight of a netbook but it packs the power of a full sized laptop. The 11.6" Acer is available with the Intel Core i7-680UM CPU clocked at 1.46GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.53GHz for $899 and there's a Core i5 version with Turbo Boost for $699. That's not cheap, but the Acer offers more bang for the buck than its competitors, making it a good value in this segment. The 1830T manages an impressive 4850 on PCMark Vantage and it has 4 gigs of DDR3 RAM, a 500 gig hard drive, 3 USB ports, HDMI, WiFi 802.11b/g/n and Bluetooth 3.0.

It's a good looking machine that weighs 3 lbs. and it's perfect for those who want something light and super-portable but need more power and a higher resolution display than netbooks offer.
