iPhone Game Review: Ready Action!
Reviewed by ninjackid

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a movie star? You'd get to be famous, act in movies with other famous stars... Sounds like fun right? Well, Ready Action! by Hot Dog Studios is almost as fun as being a real movie star.

Gameplay

Ready Action is a 2D side scrolling platformer in which the entire plot is really simple. You are a movie star now and you must run, jump collect coins, avoid hazards through a wide variety of movie-inspired levels to prove that you are a great actor.

Levels are timed though, so you have to be very quick to finish each level before the time runs out. Fortunately, checkpoints are provided for you to cash in your coins that you've collected in that level and add more time.

Like in a true platformer, your path is filled with various enemies and traps, but as you progress you can unlock more "costumes" which have different abilities such as rapid fire guns, double-jumping and even flying to beat the enemies and avoid traps. You can hold up to three costumes in each level, and switching costumes is made easy by merely swiping your finger over the top-right corner to change.

The game plays like most platformers for the iOS, with two buttons for moving left and right and two buttons for jumping and attacking. Levels are varied in their goals; while the majority of the levels require you to merely get to the end of the level in the time limit, some require you to find so many items, or find and kill so many enemies, etc.

Though Ready Action! Is not a ground-breaking platformer, it is still a rather enjoyable game. One thing odd is that the developers did not put much effort into translating the game into English, and the majority of the game's dialogue and such are rather poorly translated from Korean. This is just a very minor flaw, though, and doesn't really take anything away from the gameplay. After all, it?s not an RPG where you really have to know what?s going on to run for your life.

Graphics & Sound

The graphics for Ready Action! are bright, colorful and have a wonderful cartoony feel to them. Each costume and levels are detailed greatly and look really good and fit the game's theme perfectly.

The music and sound effects are also top-notch with bright music tracks and quirky sound effects that give a fun quirky feel to the game. iPod music is also supported.

Conclusion

Ready Action! is a fun and enjoyable platformer - you can almost call it casual platformer game. If you are a fan of the genre, it?s a nice title to pick up. Though nothing here is groundbreaking, the different take on the character role and the cute graphics will make it all worthwhile for your time and the asking price.
