What's Hot: Slim and form fitting, flexible built-in stand, comes in two colors.
What's Not: Power button is a little hard to reach.
We all know that mophie makes battery cases for the iPhone and iPod touch models. They also make a very functional case called "workbook" for the first iPad, and now for the iPad 2. The mophie workbook for iPad 2 is a portfolio style case made with good quality faux leather. The case is well built and protective yet remains slim and reasonably light. The mophie workbook comes in black and white to match the black and white iPad 2, and both versions come with 4 interchangeable straps that help shut the case securely and also add a touch of color as each strap is in a different color.
The mophie workbook for iPad 2 has an intelligent design: it has a tablet pocket on the right with soft lining and a screen cover on the left. The exterior of the portfolio case is soft faux leather, and behind the exterior, the case has hard inserts to protect both the screen and the back of the iPad 2. Thanks to the hard inserts, the case is rigid and the edges and corners are strong to protect the structure of the tablet. The tablet pocket covers majority of the iPad 2?s sides, leaving buttons and ports as well as iPad 2?s corners exposed. The pocket has a closure tab that secures the tablet using a Velcro strip. In addition on the two bottom edges of the tablet pocket, each side has a strip of Velcro for standing the tablet on the front cover. It?s a clever design as you can adjust the viewing angles using the Velcro, more flexible than slots, and it doesn?t need anything on the inside of the front cover as Velcro can easily grab onto the soft lining.
The mophie workbook for iPad 2 has magnetic integration in the case; this means you can turn on or off the iPad 2?s screen by opening and closing the front cover. The case is very form fitting, and the cover should shut easily when you close the case. But in case you need to put your iPad 2 in a bag or backpack, the mophie workbook for iPad 2 case has a wide elastic band that latches on the two holders on the back cover and can shut the case tight when you flip it over the front cover. The mophie workbook case comes with four heavy-duty elastic straps in four colors with more color choices coming soon. The case shuts very securely with the strap and should keep anything in your bag from poking your iPad 2.
The mophie workbook for iPad 2 is very slim thanks to the form fitting. The case adds 9.8 oz. weight to the iPad 2.
The pocket where your iPad 2 is sitting in has cutouts for all buttons and ports on the iPad 2 including the rear camera and the speaker grill. You can easily plug in any charge/sync cable or audio headset into your iPad 2 while it?s in this case. While the side buttons are very easy to use, the Power button on the top right corner is a little bit hidden behind the back cover. You will need to push the cover out a bit to access the power button.
The built-in stand is very steady when you push the Velcro strips firmly into the soft lining, and you can move it to create any viewing angle between 90 degrees to about 40 degrees. The mophie workbook for iPad 2 case covers the edges of the front display also, and has semicircle cutouts for the front facing camera and the Home button.
The mophie workbook for iPad 2 is a good case for those who are looking for a portfolio case that?s slim and comes with a built-in stand. The mophie workbook case has high quality stitching and good quality material. Your iPad 2 is very functional while in the case thanks to the cutouts and the built-in stand that gives you many angles. The magnetic closure is convenient for automatic sleep and wake features, and the elastic strap is a nice touch. You can get the case in either white or black color to match your iPad 2, and can change the closure strap in different colors. The only small concerns we have are the power button is a bit hidden and the wear and tear the Velcro has on the stand. If you use the same spots over and over, it might wear out sooner.
