iPhone Case Review: Cygnett Workmate Pro for iPhone 4/4S

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4

What's Hot: A significant amount of drop/shock protection without adding a lot of bulk. One of the least expensive rugged cases available for the iPhone 4S. Includes screen protector.

What's Not: No protection from moisture. Installation can be frustration.

The Workmate Pro is a great little shock-resistant case for the iPhone 4/4S. Although it provides no protection from moisture, it's reinforced silicone corners and polycarbonate shell combine to provide some serious drop/bump/scuff protection at a great price.

Size and Fit

The Workmate Pro fits the iPhone 4/4S great. It provides access to the power switch, home button, and volume controls by way of little silicone nubs, and allows direct access to the mute switch. The inner silicone skin is snugly covered by a polycarbonate back/side plate that is a pain to install but once you get it on correctly, it provides a high level of shock protection while not adding much bulk. In fact, it's the slimmest of the rugged cases I've ever reviewed.

Features and Quality

While the Workmate Pro is a relatively inexpensive case, it does not feel like one. The silicone is extra thick on the corners, and the polycarbonate outer layer is accurately machined to fit perfectly. There is no cover or plug for the sync/charge port or the headphone jack so you will still want to guard against moisture. However, the decision to leave these out has resulted in a very slim case, and an inexpensive one to boot. As an added bonus, it also includes a screen protector, although I personally find these unnecessary. Lastly, the camera is fully accessible, and the opening for the rear lens is well-designed so it does not interfere with the use of the LED flash.

Style

The Workmate Pro is available in black/grey and black/orange, and the ribbing on the back of the polycarbonate shell allows for the texture and color of the silicone liner to poke out, giving it a nice look and feel.

Conclusion
The Workmate Pro is a solid and inexpensive rugged case for your iPhone 4/4S. It's got enough style to be interesting without alienating their target market of outdoor types and tradesmen. It's a bit of a pain to install so this case may not be for you if you need to remove it regularly. However, its ability to provides a high level of shock protection at a reasonable price makes it easy to recommend.
