Targus has announced three new iPhone 5 cases that will come out in early October. We get an early look at the Targus Slider Case for the iPhone 5. The case comes in three colors, blue, black and red, and it's slim and light. The the Targus Slider Case for the iPhone 5 fits the phone perfectly and it's a very functional case.

Design

The Targus Slider Case for the iPhone 5 has a unique design. It has a hard polycarbonate exterior that covers the back and the sides (except the bottom) and all corners of the iPhone 5. It can certainly protect your iPhone 5 from scratches, bumps and nicks in a bag or a backpack. Inside of the hard plastic casing, the Targus Slider Case has a rubber bumper lining that covers the sides of the case. The bumper lining not only gives the phone some extra shock absorption but also lets you bend the top section to easily put your phone in the case or take it out. The case designer did a good job at matching the colors of the interior bumper and the exterior shell: the black case comes with white bumper, the blue one comes with lighter blue bumper and the red one comes with matching red bumper.

The Targus Slider Case wraps around the sides of the iPhone 5 and covers the edges of the front glass. The case's edges are raised enough so that when you put the phone face down, the case will touch the surface instead of your iPhone 5's glass. The material feels well made, though the exterior is slightly slippery. The Targus case adds very little bulk to your slim phone and weighs only 0.6 ounces.

Features

The Targus Slider Case is a very functional case and is protective of iPhone 5's buttons. The TPU rubber covers the power button and the volume buttons and it's quite easy to use the buttons thanks to the raised rubber pieces. The case has a cutout that's just big enough to use the silence slider and a generous cutout for the rear camera and flash that allow full view for the camera lens and the flash to fully illuminate. Since the case doesn't cover the bottom of the phone, you have free access to the audio port, Lightning port as well as the speaker. It's likely you can use the phone with audio accessories, such as speakers, clocks and alarms, while your iPhone 5 is in the case.

While the Targus Slider Case for the iPhone 5 provides good protection for the back and sides of the phone, it comes come with any protective film or other protection for the front display.

Conclusion

The Targus Slider Case for the iPhone 5 is a slim and light case that fits the phone perfectly. The design makes it very easy to use and the two-tone color gives the case a playful look. The case is protective against scratches and bumps as well as some level of shock damage. We like the three color choices; the black looks great with the black iPhone 5, the blue looks great with the white while the red looks great on either version. The case is a bit slippery and you'll need to get your own screen protector.
