13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display Full Review
      10/31/12 08:25 PM

Apple's latest notebook bridges the gap between the MacBook Air's extreme portability and the Pro line's power. The question is this: is it portable enough and powerful enough? The 13.3" notebook weighs 3.57 pounds, which isn't much more than the average 3 pound Ultrabook, and it's a pound less than the standard 13" MacBook Pro. Yep, pretty darned portable. The 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display runs on a 2.5GHz Intel Core i5 CPU that's a full mobile CPU rather than the slower ULV CPU used in Ultrabooks including the MacBook Air.

It's pricey at $1,699 for the base model, but you do get some higher end appointments like a very fast SSD drive and 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM. But how we wish for a dedicated graphics option or the quad core love the somewhat less portable 15" MacBook Pro with Retina display brings to the table. Still, you get one of the best 13.3" IPS displays on the planet with a mind-bending 2560 x 1600 resolution and Apple's usual excellent materials in a 0.75" lightweight.
