iPad Game Review: Cannon Master Review

Reviewed by JadeDragon

So if you're still a faithful of physics game genre after the Angry Birds craze, Cannon Master is a nice little title that provides a change of scenery and easy to pick up and play experience. The gameplay is well-mannered thanks to the well-thought out game design, and the graphics and sound are simple yet effective. The offers only 20 levels of physics games but the developer might add additional levels in the future.

One nice thing about Cannon Master is that there's no time limit or weapon limit in order to complete a level. So novices of the genre can play it as well as the veterans. But if you consider yourself an elitist, the game does offer a way to perfect your moves to beat the levels in fewest move possible. There are two types of cannons in the game, regular ones and timed ones; and you get unlimited number of each type in every level. You'll find some TNT boxes, barrels as well destructible blocks and indestructible ones. Some you can tip over, others you can use to knock the monsters off high or hard-to-reach platforms. So plotting how to use the tool is as important as where to shoot the cannons.

Cannon Master has good level design. Most levels are easy to beat but hard to earn 3 gold stars, and some levels show cleverness in their design. But overall, this game doesn't try to twist your brains by providing complicated web of structures or puzzling pieces. As long as you try solving the levels, you'll eventually get it. The game currently offers 20 levels which go by quite fast, as the game is both enjoyable to play and quite easy to get through. The developer has mentioned that more levels might be in the works for the future. And seeing how much fun the first 20 levels are, we do hope that promise will come true.

Graphics & Sound

Graphics in Cannon Master are sharp on the Retina iPad. The design is simple and clean. Nothing too extraordinary but serves the purpose of the gameplay well. The physics engine works smoothly and the touch control responsive. The game offers easy to understand UI as well as a few quick tips in the beginning.

Audio matches the quality and style of the visual, simple but fitting. There is a music track that's relaxing and long enough for these short levels. Sound FX companies explosions, monster dying and more.

Though not long, Cannon Master is a nice ride on the physics game train. It's quite easy to just pick up and play, but it does reward the veterans who always go after perfection. Some levels have flashes of brilliance in design and we do hope that we'll see more of them in the future. The game comes both free version and paid version, and they're essentially the game with the free version running lots of ads.
