Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs. LG G2 Comparison Smackdown
      10/12/13 03:36 PM

So you want an Android smartphone with a bigger than average display and all the high end amenities like a high quality rear camera, full HD display, and fast 4G LTE. Both the LG G2 and Samsung Galaxy Note 3 fit the bill, but there are some important differences.

Size: The LG G2 fits the larger than average 5.2" display into a body that's the same size as the HTC One and Samsung Galaxy S4 with smaller screens. There's no arguing that the Galaxy Note 3 with its 5.7" display is a big beast, though it is smaller than the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3 and Sony Xperia Z Ultra. It's more than a handful for those with small hands and it requires bigger pockets.

S Pen: Is the pen mightier than the finger? That's up to you. Some folks swear by the S Pen digital pen--particularly note takers and artists. Others have no need for this feature. If you like and want the S Pen (Wacom pen and digitizer), then it's the Note 3 for you.

Price: The Note smartphones have never been cheap, in fact they sell for more than other flagship phones on contract. The Note 3 costs $100 more on contract and $100 to $150 more at full retail via your carrier (full retail price varies among carriers). Is the Note 3 worth the extra money? Watch our comparison video to see. Clearly you're getting a larger display and the S Pen for your money.

Display: The Note 3 wins for size since its screen is a half inch bigger diagonally than the not exactly small-screen LG G2. The Note 3 has a Super AMOLED display with a PenTile matrix, but that PenTile technology has improved over the years so text halos aren't the issue they once were. Super AMOLED displays are less viewable outdoors since they excel at black levels but not brightness or whiteness. Samsung added a high bright feature that kicks in when you're outdoors and auto-brightness is enabled, but the screen still isn't as viewable outdoors as the LG G2's IPS display. IPS displays tend to have more natural color balance, though I know some of you have grown to love Super AMOLED's better than life colors. Both have full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution, with the LG G2 having somewhat higher pixel density since those pixels are squeezed into a smaller display area.

There are several more important points to cover, so grab a cup of coffee and watch our Samsung Galaxy Note 3 vs. LG G2 Comparison Smackdown video. I can tell you that either way, you won't go wrong: these are two of the best smartphones on the market right now.
