Lenovo ThinkPad 8 Video Review
      03/04/14 10:20 AM

Not too long ago we looked at Lenovo's Miix 2 8 Windows 8.1 tablet with an 8 inch display. The $299 Miix is a consumer-oriented product much like Lenovo's IdeaPad line of laptops. Today we video review the $399 Lenovo ThinkPad 8, the company's more business-minded and high end tablet. The ThinkPad 8 has an 8.3" full HD 1920 x 1080 IPS display--besting the 1280 x 800 competition (Dell Venue 8 Pro, Lenovo Miix 2 8, Acer W4 and Toshiba Encore). 8" Android and iOS tablets have full HD or higher displays, so why not Windows?

The ThinkPad 8 looks every bit a ThinkPad with their signature logo on the back, complete with the dot on the letter "i" that lights in red when the tablet is turned on. It has their standard matte black finish and metal reinforced design, as you'd expect from a ThinkPad. The only surprise? Unlike other ThinkPad tablets, there's no Wacom digitizer with pen. That's a shame because navigating the Windows desktop on an 8" tablet is much easier with a pen than a finger. The tablet has a micro USB 3.0 port, micro HDMI, 3.5mm audio and a microSD card slot.

This is full Windows 8.1 32 bit so you can install traditional Windows exe programs like Adobe Photoshop CC, iTunes and drivers for Windows peripherals of any kind. The ThinkPad 8 runs on the Intel Atom Bay Trail Z3770 1.46GHz quad core CPU with 2 gigs of RAM (soldered on) and 64 gigs of eMMC storage. As with other recent Bay Trail tablets, it's quick enough to handle the bundled MS Office 2013 Home and Student Edition, HD video playback and even Photoshop. The CPU is decently fast, though the eMMC storage holds it back, just as with other Atom tablets. The tablet is available with Windows 8.1 Pro 32 bit for an additional $100, but you'll lose the bundled MS Office (Microsoft doesn't offer the bundle with the Pro version of their operating system).

Here's our Lenovo ThinkPad 8 video review. Our full written review will follow.
