Smartphone Case Review: Trident Perseus Gel Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 Review
      05/06/14 08:32 PM

Among Trident's signature rugged case lines, the Perseus Gel Case Series belongs in thin and light category. The case comes in durable TPU that's shock absorbent and it comes in seven colors, though currently their website only offers two colors.

Design

The Trident Perseus Gel Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is a form fitting gel case that covers the back and the sides of the slim smartphone. The TPU material is stronger than silicone and can hold the shape better yet it's still flexible enough for you to install the case and take it off of your phone easily. The exterior of the Trident Perseus Gel Case has a smooth finish but is grippy and the case won't slip out of your hand. The exterior also has anti-skid texture to help with the grip in addition. The interior of the case offers shock absorbent texture. The case isn't completely clear but the texture of the Galaxy S5's stock back cover does show through the Trident Perseus Gel Case. It can certainly protect the phone's back and sides from scratches, bumps and nicks.

For the front of the large Galaxy S5, the Trident Perseus Gel Case comes with a nice screen protector. The film protector is self-applicable and it's easy to install with the included kit. The case has slight raised edges on the front to work with the included screen protector.

Features

The Trident Perseus Gel Case for Samsung Galaxy S5 is a functional case. The buttons on the smartphone including the power button and volume rocker are under the cover to prevent wear and tear, and the raised TPU buttons help with operating the phone's buttons. We wish the raised buttons had a bit more tactile feel but they're not bad to use. The case has perfect cutouts for the IR window and the audio jack on the top of the phone, the charging port and mic hole on the bottom, and the rear speaker and camera/flash/heart rate monitor cluster. All ports offer easy access when the phone is in this case.

Conclusion

If you're looking for a lightweight cover case for your Samsung Galaxy S5, the Trident Perseus Gel Case can protect the phone from bumps and bruises in your bag or backpack, scratches or nicks when you toss it on your desk or with keys in your pocket, and it can also give the phone some shock absorbing protection. The case is grippy, easy to install and it comes with a screen protector. As mentioned, there are currently only two colors available on Trident website, but more color options will hit the market soon.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 4.5
What's Hot: Lightweight, doesn't add too much bulk, easy to use.
What's Not: The buttons aren't very easy to press under the TPU cover.
