uNu Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack Review
      02/18/15 07:15 PM

uNu's Ultrapak battery packs are the new products featuring the Ultra-X fast recharging technology that lets you juice up the battery in a fraction of other battery packs' required recharge time. Oftentimes we enjoy the extra power an external battery pack gives us when we're not near a power outlet but hate the long recharge time that it takes to juice up the battery pack. Most high capacity battery packs take all night to recharge. If you've been using one of these battery packs, the uNu's Ultrapak battery packs will blow your mind. The uNu Ultrapak series currently includes two battery models, the Ultrapak Tour which has 10000mAh and the Ultrapak Go which has 3000mAh in capacity. The capacities are not unusual, but the Ultra-X fast recharging can fill up 2000mAh of the battery's power in 15 minutes.

Design

The Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack comes in a shiny plastic housing with matte, soft touch sides. The battery offers two full size USB charging ports, one with 1A and the other with 2.1A output power, along with a small flashlight on one side. The battery has a power button and a proprietary recharge port on opposite sides. The top of the battery has a LCD window that displays the percentage of the battery and the time it takes to refill the battery pack when it's recharging. The 10,000mAh pack comes in 5.36 x 2.78 x 0.69 inches and it weighs 9.9 ounces.

Features

First of all let's talk about the fast recharging speed. Most battery packs with 10000mAh capacity takes several hours if not all night or an entire working day to recharge. So in order to have the convenience of getting the extra power while you're waiting for your flight or meeting, you must remember to plug the battery pack in for several hours before you leave for your trip. Thanks to the Ultra-X technology, you don't need to with the Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack. This new kind of recharging technology and lithium polymer battery allow the battery pack to take much higher charge rate, 31.25watt to be precise. That's over 3 times faster than the Samsung S5's USB 3.0 charging speed. The Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack takes an hour and a half to fully recharge and the Ultrapak Go Battery Pack takes 45 minutes to fully recharge. Needless to say this is a game changer in how people will use their portable battery packs. The second important thing to know about the Ultrapak Battery Pack is how it's recharged. The smart chip in the battery ensures the quickest recharging time in the first 15 minutes of charging. It takes 15 minutes to fill up 2000mAh of the entire battery, and it takes relatively longer to fill up the rest. This allows users to fill up a good chuck of power in a hurry and use that power to charge their phone or tablet.

While the Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack has an amazing recharging speed, it charges phones and tablets at what the devices' charging rates allow. That means it charges at a similar rate as any 2.1A or 1A charger does. The battery can charge two devices simultaneously and can power both smartphones and tablets. In our tests, the Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack filled up an iPhone 6's battery at least two and a half full cycles and it took about an hour and forty minutes to charge the iPhone 6 from nearly empty to full. The battery could fill up the NVIDIA Shield Tablet's battery to nearly full from empty and it took about 2 hours and 45 minutes to charge the tablet. The battery could fill up an iPad Air 2's battery to 80% in three and a half hours.

The Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack has a special type of A+ lithium polymer battery that features built-in safety protection. It includes heat protection, overvoltage input and output protection, short circuit and reset protection. The proprietary block AC adapter is a world power compatible 100-240V charger.

Conclusion

If you've ever been bogged down by the slow recharging speed of your battery pack, the Ultrapak Tour Battery Pack will surely impress you with its super fast recharge time and its incredible standby time. The battery is quite light and compact for the amount of power it offers. The battery is smart and efficient and it can tell you how long the recharge will take and that information is always accurate. It can charge two devices at a time including a smartphone and a tablet, and it can easily fill up your phone or small tablet and top up your large tablet.
