Incase Portable Power 5400 Battery Review
      04/07/15 06:06 PM

Incase offers two portable battery chargers, the Portable Power 5400 and the smaller capacity but more compact and lighter Portable Power 2500. The Portable Power 5400 is a 5400 mAh battery that comes with its own USB recharging dangle. The battery has one full size USB power output port and it comes in two colors.

Design

The Incase Portable Power 5400 is compact and light for the power it packs. It measures 4.4 x 2.1 x 0.75 inches and it weighs 5.8 ounces. The batter has a glossy finish but has a rubberized bottom so it won't slide off a glass table or any slippery surface. The Portable Power 5400 has a built-in USB recharging cable that's 4" long and a single USB charging port. The round power button also functions as LED light cover, and there're five LED lights that indicate the battery's power level. The Portable Power 5400 comes in grey and black, and both have colorful recharging cables that add some visual interest to the solid battery bricks. The grey one has a magenta cable and the black one has a neo green cable.

Features

The 5V USB charging port on the Portable Power 5400 outputs 0.5-2.1A power and it's capable of charging most smartphones and tablets. In our testes, the battery could indeed fill about 2 full charges for the iPhone 6 and 50% of a full charge for the iPad Air 2. The battery charges the smartphones faster thanks to the 2.1A power output. It charged our iPhone 6 from nearly empty to full in about 2 hours, but it charged the iPad Air 2 from 20%-70% in 2 hours also. The Portable Power 5400 has 6 hours of recharge speed via 1A AC outlet. The LED lights come in handy for checking power levels and recharging status, though we found in our tests that they were a bit wonky as it went up and down when indicating power levels within a few minutes. One good indication would be plugging the battery to recharge and see the true power level.

Conclusion

The Portable Power 5400 is a good portable power solution for the commuters and day-trippers who need to get their phone through the day or their trip even if they forgot to charge it before leaving home or office. It's compact and light, and it can also top up a large tablet. The battery comes with its own recharging cable and it comes in two color options. The battery offers only one charging port however and the LED lights sometimes give out erratic readings.
