iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker Review
      07/21/15 08:28 PM

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker is a water-resistant wireless speaker that you can use in a shower, or while bathing or cooking. The speaker comes with a versatile stand and a wall mount to give you several ways to position it in any room in the house. It has loud volume and long Bluetooth range. Audio quality is very decent for a mono speaker and it can also take calls with a built-in mic. The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker comes in white only.

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker comes in a design that goes well with your bathroom or kitchen appliances. The white plastic housing has water-resistant seal that protects the buttons and most of the body of the speaker. You can splash water on it but it's not safe for submerging it in the water or pool. It's designed for you to use it in the shower or giving children baths or cooking without worrying about getting your phone wet, and you can safely use the buttons when your hands aren't dry. The control buttons include the power button, volume buttons, a dedicated Bluetooth button, three media playback control buttons which also share with call pick-up and call end functions, and a time button. The button inset is deeper as well to make it easier to use while your hands are wet amd slippery. The mono speaker hides on the back of the iShower2 and fires towards the back. This design protects the speaker from water and grease.

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker offers two ways of installation. You can use the built-in stand to prop up the speaker on any flat surface steadily or flip it up and hang the speaker on a hook. The speaker also has two mounting holes on the back and they work very well with the included wall mount. The wall mount uses 3M no-residue adhesives instead of a suction cup, and it's strong and easy to use. The wall mount allows a few inches of space between the rear-firing speaker and the wall, giving it a sonic reflective boost. If you hang the speaker with the built-in stand against the wall directly, you'll lose considerable level of volume. The iShower2 measures 6.0 x 4.0 x 1.25 inches and it weighs 15.2 ounces.

The iShower2 has built-in Bluetooth and it supports both stereo and mono Bluetooth audio profiles. It can stream music, radio and movie audio from your phone, tablet or laptop via Bluetooth, and it can also take calls with the built-in mic. The speaker can pair with up to five devices, but it can only connect with one at the time. Pairing isn't hard but it's not as easy as newer Bluetooth versions that offer voice instructions. The speaker could've helped with the pairing had the LED display provided better instructions, but alas, you're resort to playing the guessing game when you need to pair the speaker with multiple devices. Bluetooth range on the iShower2 is very good. You should have no trouble using the speaker anywhere in a large house or office when it's connected to your phone.

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker has loud audio and decent quality. Clarity is good for mid-range but it lacks power in bass and sounds tinny in highs. Vocals in most genres sound clear and full, but don't expect to hear the nuances in certain instruments like piano and violin when they play high notes, or to experience strong bass in Rock and Hip-Hop tunes. The iShower2 has clear audio for voice calls and the volume is quite loud.

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker comes with 3 AA batteries and has no built-in rechargeable battery. The claimed playtime is over 20 hours which seems to be realistic. To conserve battery, the LED lights remain off for the most part. If you need to check the time, you need to press the time button and the display will go off in a couple of seconds. The display doesn't show the name of the tunes you're playing or the caller ID when a call comes in. The speaker turns itself off automatically after a few minutes of inactivity.

The iDevices iShower2 Bluetooth Speaker does what it's designed to do, which is keeping our devices from getting wet in the shower, or near children who're playing with water or while we're cooking. It has loud and reasonably clear sound and you can sit it on a table or hang it on a wall. The speaker is easy to use though it's not the easiest to pair with devices, and it has long Bluetooth range. It works with any Bluetooth phone, tablet or laptop and it works well as a speakerphone. The speaker uses AA batteries instead of a rechargeable Lithium battery. We wish the LEDs would display more things, such as the time, track info, caller ID and more.

Editor's Ratings (1-5): 3.5
What's Hot: Versatile installation, loud volume, and reasonably clear sound.
What's Not: Audio lacks power on bass and tinny on highs, LEDs don't display enough info, pairing isn't the easiest.
Price: $99.95
