RAVPower 22000mAh External Battery Pack Review
      07/18/16 08:10 PM

There're quite a few options when you need an external battery pack with high capacity and charges two devices simultaneously. The RAVPower 22000mAh battery pack however ups the ante by offering even bigger capacity than most portable batteries this size and three charging ports that can charge 3 devices simultaneously. The RAVPower also serves up high conversion rate and fast charging time. If you take a 12" MacBook, an iPad and an iPhone, the battery can both charge all of them simultaneously and multiple times. And best of all, it's super affordable.

Unlike the Kanex GoPower 15K battery we recently reviewed that comes in a slab shape, the RAVPower 22000mAh battery comes in a stick form. The battery measures 6.50" long, 2.76" wide and 0.94" thick, and it weighs 14.8 ounces. The black housing is made of UL94 V-0 fire-resistant thermoplastic alloy material some luxury cars are made of. All three power output ports live on one end of the battery, and the microUSB recharging port lives on one side of the battery while the power level button lives on the other. Four tiny blue LED lights live on the top of the battery, indicating the level of charge remains on the battery. The RAVPower 22000mAh comes with two microUSB charging cables and a carry pouch.

The RAVPower battery is indeed powerful with 22000mAh/83.6Wh capacity. Each of the three charging ports can output 2.4A max power and 5.8A total. This means you can charge multiple devices simultaneously even when they include two tablets and a smartphone. Surprisingly, the RAVPower outputs enough power amperage to charge the 12" MacBook. All of the three charging ports are also iSmart 2.0 USB ports, which means when you plug in a device to charge, the battery will correctly identify the device and charge it with an optimal speed. We tested the battery with several devices and found that it both charged quickly and offered high conversion rate. It charged the iPhone 6s from nearly empty to full in less than an hour. It charged the 12" MacBook from 10% to full in less than 2 hours. The RAVPower uses new and improved high-density Li-polymer that beats the conventional Li-polymer batteries in efficiency. In our tests, the battery could charge the 12" MacBook twice, the iPhone 6s at least 8 times, the Samsung Galaxy S7 five times and the iPad mini 4 more than three times. And thanks to the new type of cells, the RAVPower will retain up to 70-80% of its full capacity after 500 charge-discharge cycles.

The RAVPower 22000mAh battery adopts the iSmart 2.0 charging technology that features smart current, smart voltage, smart distribution and smart protection. The technology automatically adjusts current and voltage to minimize charging time and maximize performance, while providing safe, more stable and higher current conversion. Thanks to the fire-resistant housing, the battery internals are well protected from heat and shock as well. The large capacity battery takes overnight recharging.

Conclusion

With 22000mAh and three simultaneous charging ports, the RAVPower battery has more than enough power for those long international flights, weekend trips and it can easily make through a week of topping up your phones, tablets and even a 12" MacBook. Be aware though, the battery doesn't charge all Ultrabooks just because they have smaller batteries. We tested the RAVPower with the Dell XPS 13 and found that the battery couldn't charge it. Still, if you have tablets and smartphones in your gear bag when you travel, the RAVPower battery is easily the longest lasting external power pack we've tested. It beats out the Kanex 15K by far and it's even lighter than the 15K battery. We like the fact that all three ports offer fast charging and the high conversion rate. We're especially impressed by the $39.99 price tag for all the technology and high quality materials went in to this battery. If you're on the road a lot, do pick one up and save yourself the headache of managing which of your devices deserve more power and just charge them all.
