Hotsync issues for Palm M515

HELP! I am having a terrible time syncing my palm to my desktop.
I have windows XP and had virus problems which are now fixed. Since then, I have tried all issues given me in the palmone site - reloaded software, drivers, etc. and cannot get the palm to connect.
Any ideas?
