We met with the folks at FlipStart, who've been working on a Windows handheld PC for a loonng time. Guess what? It's finally going to ship next Tuesday, April 3rd, they tell us!
Competing with the OQO model 02 which just started shipping today, the FlipStart is an incredibly small handheld PC that's available with Windows Vista or XP-- your choice. It has a 1.1 GHz Intel Centrino processor (no, not Core Solo, but the older CPU), 512 megs of RAM and a 30 gig shock mounted hard drive.
It measures 5.9 x 4.5 x 1.6 inches and weighs 1.75 lbs. with the standard battery.
The 1024 x 600 color display was suprisingly readable though it measures only 5.4" diagonally. I found it easier to read than the Sony Vaio UX380, though the Sony's display is prettier. Pretty or not, we love our eyes and the FlipStart was surprisingly kind to them. It also features an external 176 x 220 pixel display on the top lid of this mini-notebook.
The price is $2,000 and includes a port replication, standard high capacity battery an a carrying case.
