Mac News: Elgato Announces EyeTV 250 Plus
      08/16/07 09:21 PM

Elgato Systems, a leading provider of products for watching TV on your Macintosh, has announced that the EyeTV 250 Plus, feature hardware transcoding capability, is now available.

EyeTV 250 Plus is a hybrid TV tuner for the Mac with a powerful hardware encoder for higher quality recordings and smaller sized video files. EyeTV 250 Plus receives both digital TV (DTT, or Freeview) as well as analogue TV, and offers a complete solution for converting videos from VHS tape to DVD-Video.

All-in-One TV for your Mac
EyeTV 250 Plus is ideal for those who want the flexibility of a digital and analogue TV receiver together with a hardware encoder in one device. It delivers free-to-view digital television (DTT, or Freeview) to your Mac, as well as conventional analogue TV via standard cable or aerial. In Australia and other areas in which HDTV is broadcast, enjoy watching stunning 720p or 1080i HDTV (MPEG-2) in addition to the other digital television standards.

EyeTV 250 Plus also comes with a break-out cable for composite video and S-Video, enabling you to connect a set-top box directly to your Mac.

Special Features:
  • Receives both analogue and digital TV (DTT, or Freeview)
  • Built-in hardware encoder
  • Includes Roxio Toast(R) 8 Basic disc burning software
  • Includes a VHS Assistant to convert videotapes

Superb quality digital and analogue TV recordings
EyeTV 250 Plus records digital television in one quality setting, Lossless. The DVB stream is recorded unaltered, giving you full quality DTT content as encoded by the broadcaster. EyeTV supports DTT multilingual programming and Dolby(R) Digital sound.

EyeTV 250 Plus incorporates a powerful hardware encoder that can record high quality video from analogue sources, compressing audio and video signals to small size MPEG-2 files and freeing up your processor for other activities. MPEG-2 is a premium-quality video compression standard which is the basis for DVD and digital television.

Convert videotapes into digital files
EyeTV 250's built-in hardware encoder compresses audio and video signals to MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 formats, freeing up your computer's processor for other activities. This also means that you can record high quality video even with a less powerful Mac. MPEG-2 is a premium-quality video compression standard, which is the basis for DVD and digital television.

The EyeTV 250 Plus has an estimated retail price of $199 in the US. For more information, please visit the official site.
