You could probably use a smartphone or feature phone to monitor the status of systems/networks from anywhere at any time, so you could find and correct outages faster.
Having e-mail access (like Lisa said) may help you respond to other people's requests sooner.
You can look up reference info anywhere - you never know when you might need some person's exact name or contact info, or some specification or standard, at a place where you might not otherwise have Internet access.
